Partial Solar Eclipse was visible in Surat on 26 December 2019. Read how citizens of Surat participated in this rare celestial event at Science Centre, Surat.

A rare celestial occurance Solar Eclipse was visible as the decades last observable astronomical event for sky gazers and enthusiasts. Solar Eclipse was visible in South Asia and in parts of Southern India, annular solar eclipse was visible, where many sightings of a ring was reported. However in Surat and other northen parts of India, partial solar eclipse was visible. Clear sky conditions in Surat provided an amazing experience for the citizens to see this event from open grounds with proper kits. Eclipse was seen between 8:30am to 10:30am with peak at 9:20 am.

Surat Municpal Corporation (SMC) managed Science Centre organised a Solar Eclipse viewing event on 26 December 2019 for public at Citylight Road in it’s premises. The event was open from 8am to 11am to cover the entire duration of Solar Eclipse.

Never see a Solar Eclipse or any solar events directly with naked eye. It could harm your eyes severly, even causing damage permanently in some cases. Always use help and view through Solar Filter.

Large Telescope was arranged to enable clear view of the solar eclipse for public. The telescope was attached with solar filters and zoom overlayed onto a paper for ease of view. Another telescope was connected to axial mount as well as TV display, where citizens could see it from within the lobby premises. Also “Solar Filters” were provided for individual viewing, so that one can experience it completely and grasp the celestial phenomena better and forever.

Solar Eclipse was seen between 8:30 am to 10:30 am with peak at 9:20 am.

Solar Eclipse occurs when Moon is aligned and comes in between Sun and Earth. When the shadow of Moon, falls on the Earth, it obstructs the Sun, as the 3 celestial bodies are in line on that particular day. Solar Eclipse occurs on New Moon Day.
