SMC Garden, Godadara

Under one of the initiatives for Clean Surat, Green Surat, SMC has developed lot of gardens and parks across the city. We will be covering each one of them in detail. These gardens and parks provide a nice suitable hangout place with family as well as walking/jogging track for fitness enthusiasts. Today we will go through one such garden in Godadara.

Inaugurated in January 2018, this park has gained lot of popularity in the vicinity as a hangout place for the young as well as gathering and evening resting place for the old. Lot of people are seen in the early morning doing yoga and other workout to maintain their health and fitness. During the evening, many people are seen walking around in the pavement.

The place is maintained by SMC and some garderners are provided with shelter within the park, who look after watering, cleaning and maintaining the plants. The park timings are appropriate from 6am-12pm & 3pm-11pm. Park is closed between 12pm-3pm. There is enough lighting in the park after sunset. There are dustbins placed at few metres for maintaining cleanliness. There is a public toilet inside the park, however it is not so well maintained.

Cleanliness of a city or a public place is not just the responsibility of government or municipal corporation, it is an equal responsibility of the citizens to ensure, they keep their surrounding clean and and do not litter. Likewise help to maintain the gardens and other public places, by doing their bit.

There is a section of kids play area, where they can play in fun activities like see-saw, sliders, climbing and swinging.

On festivals, holidays and on weekends, the number of footfall increases two folds and it is like a picnic spot in the evening, where families and groups of people come over to enjoy time together. The beauty of this park is so popular, that a lot of photographers are seen doing pre-wedding and wedding shoots over here in the evenings.

Something that started of as a clean and green initiative by SMC, has grown within a year to a picnic spot, workout area, play area, wedding shoots backdrop, chit chat area and many other. It is a proud achievement for the surtis as well as Surat Municipal Corporation.

The garden is located on the main road. The closest BRTS station is Jogini Mata Mandir BRTS. You can take 204 bus from Chowk or 254 bus from Surat Railway Station. If you take an auto from Surat Railway Station, it will cost you around 20 Rs in shared auto and the closest drop point would be Godadara Naher. If you take a direct Auto from Station, it would cost you between 100-150 Rs, you will have to be good at bargaining. Location of the garden is provided below.
